I know it's going to be a read, but hopefully a good debate will follow!
I know that I and others have created threads JUST like this in the past, but I think it's kind of fun to debate so let's do it again. I feel like this is a good place to talk about this because we are all really familiar with the MKV platform and many of us have experience with other platforms as well.
My situation and what I want to do: I work a job where I drive about 350 miles a week and rely on my car to make sales calls. I also want to start doing way more autoX with a few track days sprinkled in. Ideally at this point I'd get two cars, one for work, and one for play BUT I live in CROWDED California and I don't own a house. So at least for the next few years I should keep it to one car.
Why I'm thinking about getting another GTI, and not keeping the one I have: DSG, I don't know how to drive a manual. This car has introduced me into the world of motorsports and I feel like I'm missing something. Plus at some point I'm going want another car it might be manual. It's a skill I want to acquire. Also it's getting up there in millage, 106K at the moment. The biggest thing is I use a GTI for work AND autoX know so I know exactly what to expect and what it will cost.
For this situation I would get a FSI GTI that is equal or lesser value as my GTI and pay CA$H! My GTI is just about paid off (I owe about $4K but I have that cash on hand).
Why I'm thinking about getting a car that's NOT a GTI: FWD and I already fucking have one.
