So...My wife and I were counting...14 Cars in 4 years...Anyone else crazy too?

My wife and I will have been together for 4 years as of November. We were talking last night after my latest purchase about the cars we have had in that time period. Much to our surprise, the number came to 15 cars in 4 years!!! Now two of those have been company Camrys, but I am going to count them as they both have had a place in our lives and driveway.

When we met, I had a 07 Jetta Wolfsburg and she had a '90 Buick LeSabre. (No pics of the Buick)

Shortly after that, a friend drove my Bronco back from MT for me. She actually drove my car home and I drove the Bronco on our first date. It was a good way to get her back to the house. ;)

The LeSabre was a good car, but a complete rust bucket. I found out how bad when she got a flat on the highway and I put the jack through the rocker panel!! She wanted a MK4 Jetta, and that is what she got. In the meantime, I sold the Bronco and got a Corrado.

It wasn't long before we were both a bit bored with our latest acquisitions. We traded her car on a '09 Jetta S and I sold the Corrado and picked up a Cabriolet. (To be continued in my second post as for some reason I can only post so much information on here before it starts to automatically scroll.) :rolleyes:

(the boost in this was 7psi. I now run 15psi with the screw 1.5 turns in). It's sweet!

Clutch or flywheel on its way out?

Hi all, lets just begin by saying my 2004 Golf V doesn't have the most engine around these parts - an ordinary 1.6 102hp petrol engine, code BGU. Manual transmission.

The trouble is that at idle the engine irregularly vibrates, which can be felt throught the seat, wheel and pedals. The vibrations are a bunch of weaker jolts with some stronger jolts thrown in.

Had the engine checked at a couple of reputable garages. To exclude some possibilities:
- The ignition system is good, no ignition troubles.
- The fuel system is good. The injectors have been ultrasonic cleaned and work fine.
- No starting problems whatsoever.
- No engine speed fluctuation problems whatsoever.

As I currently see it, the vibrations are clutch and/or flywheel related. This engine has a single mass flywheel, FYI.

* The clutch engages quite high and usually when pulling away from a standstill, the engagement is accopanied by a slight jolt as the friction surfaces meet.
* When in 2nd gear and of course no handbrake on, the car can be manually pushed back and forth a couple of ft / 30cm. This should mean there is a large slack somewhere?
* There is a slight clatter sound, which dissapears when the clutch is pressed down. Excellent video here -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNBvnHlUkmY
* When I let off the gas, as car starts to decelerate, it jolts forward 3 times. No matter what gear or speed.
* When changing gears and not letting off the clutch really-really slow, it jolts one time.
* When rev-matching downshifts and hitting the revs a little bit too high AND letting off the clutch fast, it clunks and jolts several times. When hitting downshift revs too low, there is no clunking.
* I recently had the transmission mount replaced, whereas the engine and dogbone mount are deemed to be in OK condition. I think the problem I'm having has caused the tranny mount to wear out previously.

Are my only options having the gearbox taken out or is it possible to inspect for any damage through the starter mounting hole?

Background on the car:

I purchased this car directly from Farmers Insurance.* It was declared a total loss from mechanical damage.** It did NOT have any body or physical damage.* Long story short the engine was beyond repair so went searching for a suitable low mileage used motor. *After a LONG TIME of searching I located an S4 motor that had less than 50k miles on it.* The 25quatrro S4 had 76,433 Miles on the odometer at the time of the swap. Had my mechanic's shop do the motor swap who did an awesome job btw.* As this was to be my personal car I spared no expense on the job.* As a precaution, while the motor was out, I had a new clutch installed, flywheel resurfaced, had the valve cover gaskets replaced, serpentine belt replaced, along with many fittings and other misc parts replaced with new parts.* After the completion of the swap, the motor ran perfectly and the car drives brilliantly.*

The Downside:

Since it had been written off as a total loss by the insurance company it will have a salvage history.* One of the aux radiators was cracked and the coolant system was dry so the assumption is the previous owner blew up the motor while driving without coolant and somehow got the insurance company to cover it.

The car is in excellent condition inside and out.* The exception is the front bumper has quite a few stone chips (as pictured).* I was going to have it refinished but hadn't yet.

I have all documentation and pictures from when purchased from the insurance company to the motor swap and all other work performed. *The car currently has 78,116 miles on the clock.* I am motivated to sell but please serious inquiries only! VAG Codes in my MK4 2.0: 16804 and 17704

My car is an 01 Jetta 2.0 manual. On a trip to the Bay Area from San Diego the CEL came on and then after a day went off. After returning to San Diego the light came back on and then off again after day or two. It continues to go on and off every few days but there are no present drivability problems. Runs great.

After reading through some threads some have said to run the tests in this thread for the CAT and O2 sensor:

The only codes which I think are related to the issue are 16804, 17704 and 01039. The others are unrelated.

"new" turbo smoking. tried search. HELP PLEASE!

Ok. *deep breath*
I have a MKIV GTI 1.8t, model from 2003. AWP if memory serves.
My k03s blew on me. I don't have the $ for a k04 right now so I bought a used k03 (not sport).
Bought a turbo>exhaust install kit (4 studs, washers, nuts, and a gasket).
Took everything apart, put the "new" turbo in, and put everything back together.
While I had the oil drained I decided to change the oil filter.
New synthetic oil from the list of good oil brands here on Vortex (went with a Pennzoil).

So, everything is back together now. Took me 2 weeks of working every afternoon when I got off work. (Ran into several problems. Stripped bolt/threads, stuck studs {tac welded a nut onto the end to get em off}, etc...)

Brand new oil and G12 in the engine. Crank her up. Sounds a bit rough then I hear the oil cycle through and she sounds perfect.
5mins of letting her run, and a rev or two, and some white smoke starts coming from behind the engine head.
Cut the engine off after running another couple mins, smoke never stopped.
Jack her back up, crank her up, and white smoke starts again after 3mins or so.

I crawl under to take a look while she's running. The smoke appears to be coming from the turbo around the exhaust flange (that goes to the tail pipe).

Also, oil starts slowly dripping from the middle of the turbo.
"Ok, maybe I spilled a bit of oil while filling her up" but I know that's not it because I used a funnel and was careful (as usual) and the oil is dark brown so it has to be from inside the engine somewhere... then I see tiny small bubbling in the seem of the turbo.
I thought maybe I was seeing things but sure enough there was a steady drip now. Maybe 2 drips per 10 seconds.

I have had my GTI parked in the driveway for a month while I got everything ordered and made time to work on her ($ is tight at the moment).

Any ideas?
